Work-Life Balance & Virtual Teams

Forward looking companies are working virtually. Not only for business reasons but because they value their people. The workforce is a company’s most lucrative asset. With work stress becoming more of an issue today, the move to less travel and more virtual team work is a compounding benefit in today’s global and competitive economy.

Most successful companies have been collaborating for years with business advantages and huge cost savings in mind. Collaboration techniques are becoming more advanced with the establishment of virtual teams both within the enterprise and also the cross enterprise, with customers and suppliers.

Today holistic organizations that promote work life balance and in doing so have invested in setting up virtual workspaces are reaping the benefits of higher employee motivation, work satisfaction and health improvements leading to less sick leave and huge savings as a result. Working fathers and mothers are able to work from home when necessary. Where project work resulted in many work days away from home traveling abroad, this has been immensely reduced.

Virtual team work like anything else has its challenges though. It requires a balance of its own; establishing efficient communication processes which still include intermittent face to face interaction, leadership, and clear responsibilities and accountability.
